Larger than a birds nest, smaller than a house.

These ladies have their work cut out for them.  Remember they are designed for swimming and are not land ready.  They also weigh in at around 200+ pounds.  Besides the long journey from the sea to nesting site, they dig a nest cavity 18"-36" deep, lay 100+ ping pong ball size eggs, cover the nest and then head back to sea.  This is all done using just their flippers and takes approx. 2 hours!!

The mound of sand to left of photo is actual nest cavity

Notice how much deeper these pits are from the loggerhead turtles'.  Nest is to the right of "tractor tire" tracks leading out of pit.
