2004 Turtle Season Photo Diary

The season is really slow this year - water temp was cold at the start of season. Nesting activity is about 50% down throughout Florida.  The good news...we have had a lot of really good emergences with a high hatch rate (from what I have seen).

Here is a picture of my cousin's daughter Jalena and her winning Terrific Trash Turtle which she won first place for at a Recycle Art contest in San Francisco.  She was thrilled. She made the turtle out of all the things that kill turtles and each can has an element written on it:  wire, nets, plastic bags, etc...

Every year prior to start of turtle season, the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) holds the annual Florida Marine Turtle Permit Holder Meeting. This years meeting was  January 30-February 1, 2004 at the Coronado Springs Resort at Walt Disney World in Orlando.  We got lucky and won a lottery spot to snorkel the Aqua Sea Aquarium.  What fun we had!

Life has really gotten busy for us with the opening of our native plant nursery....Full Moon Natives.  Have not had time to update the site this year, so am just doing a "Turtle Season in Pictures" page.  Click on any thumbnail to enlarge - use your back button to return to this page.
