Welcome to my Turtle Experience!

Thank goodness we decided to open our own business....if it were not for this life changing event I would never have found the time to become a volunteer with the Volusia-Flagler Turtle Patrol .  The Volusia-Flagler Turtle Patrol is a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection of sea turtles. The group patrols 25 miles of beach from May 1st until the end of September, looking for turtle crawls.

Our beaches are hosts for loggerhead nests (our most common), greens and leatherback turtle nests.  In addition to tracking all sea turtle nesting activity, we also log sightings of endangered bird activities.

This web site was developed as a way  to share mine and my husbands new lifestyle in Florida with our family and friends.  Being a turtle patrol volunteer has been a very rewarding experience and I wanted a platform to convey my experiences.

Please be patient when pages are loading - the pictures are worth the wait.  And now to start my journey....

I couldn't wait to start volunteering for turtle patrol.  This was something very new to me and I had some very imaginative ideas as to what to expect.  From the first day of patrol the following myths I had were laid to rest:

You just stroll along the beach looking for turtles

Paperwork...what paperwork?

What a relaxing way to start the day

Everybody loves the Turtle Patrol

Only the mailman works in all types of weather

Please browse this site for further ramblings and pictures of "what I did this summer".
